Happy Women's Day!

Since school I have been listening to the line, "The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world." Although I felt great each time I heard it, I probably did not understand its complete meaning until I grew a little older.

And as the world celebrates the International Women's Day today, I have penned down a composition of verse for all the women of the world who have fought and worked hard to be where they are today! Who have made a huge difference in our small lives with their love and affection!Who have made an enormous contribution to make this world a better place to live in.

My message to all my fellow women is that "Being born as a woman is a privilege in itself"! Believe in yourself and the fire within!

She hides her strength beneath her beauty
With a charming smile on her face
Her tender eyes exudes courage to endure
Both, gloom and glory, with grace!

She spreads colour and fragrance everywhere
Like a blooming beautiful flower
However her roots, which are well grounded
Is her source of immense power!

She starts her journey as an obedient daughter
And grows into a devoted wife
And then she becomes the loving mother
And plays all three roles, all her life!

She is the one who holds the family
Through its phases, smooth and rough
With tears of joy in happy times
And smiles during times tough!

She works hard and smart to earn her due
For her honour and principles, she fights
Sometimes with dignified acts and words
Sometimes with all her might!

She is ready to face the challenges
She is ready to win the world.
Yet for her, her prime accomplishment is
When in her arms, her baby is sleeping curled.

With a heart of gold, and thoughts so pure
And deeds so gentle and kind
Oh thy lady, what can I say?
You are the greatest gift to mankind

Farewell

Saying "Good-Bye" to my loved ones, is something which I have always found extremely difficult. And as my parting words for the memorable time, the beautiful IIM-Bangalore campus, and the most awesome friends I made there, I have penned down the following.

As I started writing this email today,
I could not think of words to say.
I came here a year back, unknown to this place,
With my husband, a handbag and a big suitcase.
I had thought I was going to miss my friends and home,
And would spend most of my time, all alone.
However as time passed and days went by, I began to see,
I loved my room and the window with a view of the tree.
The beautiful campus with morning green and evening hue
But most importantly, my friend it was you.
You made me a part of this campus life,
And not like just a fellow-student's wife.
Dinners, parties and movie nights,
Smiles, tears and silly fights.
The ups and downs you saw me through,
This life was like a dream come true.
And now its time to say goodbye
And a tear trickles down my eye
Friends, I love you all and be well,
Are the words I say, as I bid farewell.

Where is God?

Hey All! Once again, I bring a poem for you from my collection. I wrote it couple of years back when I was trying to explain the subject to my 5 year old cousin. Hope you like it!

“Where is God”, he asked,
And his mother gave a smile
“Sit down here”, she said
“I will tell you in a while!

Hidden from the mortal eyes
And unseen to the human sight
God dwells everywhere
In the form of a divine light.

He’s the gold of the golden rays
Which enter your room at dawn
He’s the fragrance of the flower
Which blooms everyday in your lawn.

He is in the humming of the bees
And in the songs of the birds
He is the music of our lives
Which can’t be expressed by words.

He’s there in the hot blazing deserts
And in the mountains, steep and high
He resides in the deep blue oceans
And the forests outlining the sky.

He’s present in the fury of the storms
And in the cool gentle breeze
He is there in the white foamy waves
Which run of the seas with ease.

He is the silver of the moon
He is the twinkle of the stars
He everywhere in the universe
Be it Neptune, Pluto or Mars.

He is the smile which lights your face
He is the tear of your eye
You should remember him when you smile
You should remember him when you cry.

He present in every truth of science
He is there in the beauty of art
Do you still want to know, where is He?
Just look into your heart!”

Beauty

"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”, they say! But this is certainly not the message which the cosmetic companies want to give us! Showing advertisements where a girl with a snow-white-flawless-complexion is out there winning the world, is definitely sending out a wrong word to the masses.

For generations, great writers and poets have penned down beautiful and mesmerizing words to describe the beauty of a lady! However, today I have a poem, which I wrote during my first year at engineering, to express my definition of it!

BEAUTY

They teased her calling dark and ugly,
And often made her cry
They offended, ignored and made fun
Of the girl, so timid and shy!

Never could she join their games
And was kept out of everything,
Longingly, she would watch them
Whey they used to dance and sing!

No one knew how she felt
No one saw her weep
But there was one person from whom,
Her secret, she could not keep!

Nothing was hidden from her mother,
However hard she tried to hide.
For a mother’s heart could tell her child’s smile,
And it would know when her child cried!

And so one day, when she could bear no more
She went to her daughter and said
“Come with me, I want to talk to you
And listen with your heart and head!

I know why you don’t talk for hours
Even when you have lots to say
I know why you sit alone, quite
When other children dance and play!

Don’t take to your heart, hurting words,
As they are not true
Whatever you have is God’s gift
Lovingly chosen for you!

Whatever may be the shape and colour
Beautiful, all flowers are.
Sometimes dim, sometimes bright
But a star is always a star!

You have a pure affectionate soul
And you always do your duty.
Your truthful eyes, and your innocent smile
Is what makes you a beauty!!”

The Aliens Speak

I had written this poem when I was in Std. 12 to express my views on something which I feel strongly about - Nature!

The Aliens Speak

Once upon a time on this planet
Lived some strange creatures,
They could eat and walk and talk like us,
And possessed beautiful features.

They called themselves Homo sapiens,
And to us they referred as ‘aliens’.
Some of them thought we were mere imagination,
And our existence was always a question.

They were proud of something they had, called ‘brain’,
Which they wasted away in vain!
As they were the cause of their own destruction,
War! Explosion! War! Explosion!

Since the time of their evolution,
They started the deadly pollution!
The planet turned from green to brown,
The beautiful nature began to frown!

The deep blue sky soon lost its colour
There was no winter; There was no summer.
The perennial brooks became thirsty,
Tired they looked, dry and rusty.

All this didn’t give them satisfaction,
For this it seems, was only a fraction!
What happened next was more terrible,
Incredulous?? Or Incredible??

The planet was now in a pathetic state,
Where people only knew how to hate.
Revenge, revolution and ego clash.
The result was Ash and Ash.

 Everyday a different war,
It spread like a disease without a cure.
Everyday few hundreds died!
Everyday few hundreds cried!

And finally there came an end
To this ugly and horrendous trend
Cause there was no one left to die,
And there was no one left to cry!!

They neither lost, they neither won!
But they definitely left a lesson!
So that we don’t repeat what they have done,
So that we don’t repeat what they have done!!

Whispering Trees!!

It was a day when windows rattled
And creaking doors made a noise,
And I stood under a tree, to save me from rain,
When I heard a strange voice.

It startled me and a looked behind,
But there was no one I could find.
I thought it was a silly hallucination,
And probably, my weird imagination.

But that was where, I was wrong,
And now I could hear a feeble song.
I strained my ears to hear the sound,
And was terrified at what I found……

It was a whisper from the trees,
Which gave me a shiver in my knees!
The following were the words they said,
It looked as if from a book they were read…….

“We the trees, in every season,
Serve men without any reason,
We serve them in hot; we serve them in wet,
But in return, what do we get?

Day by day our numbers decrease,
As if we are paying fees,
Of making this earth a lively place,
And adding beauty to its face.

Nature has been partial to man,
Whatever he wants to do, he can.
But we can neither move nor walk,
Nor to express ourselves, can we talk.

For our survival, we can’t fight.
We don’t have strength, to show our might.
Nor do we wish to fight back,
As that cruelty is what we lack.

We have no accusations to make,
We only give, we never take.
Please let us live, is what we plead,
And we hope to this request, man will heed. “

The rain had stopped and so had I,
And a tear trickled down my eye
Cause my heart was heavy with disgrace
And with shame, I hid my face.

I had never imagined that man could be so cruel,
Towards one, who gave him food and fuel.
I still think in my solitude,
About my encounter with the speaking wood!!
